You know how I can’t resist a lovely fabric?!? Introducing The Cuba.
I saw this fabric on the indoor market a few weeks ago and kept thinking about what a great dress it would make. I wondered if it was a little too loud, but I always get lots of comments when I wear The Louvre, and decided everyone knows I make my own clothes now….no hiding it, so would just go for it.
I chose Simplicity 1609, apprehensively,as I wasn’t sure how the large darts would affect the fabric design. I prefer this style of shift as it is more fitted on my waist.
Here is the dress cut out and draped on Janibob. Just so I could get a taster of how it would look. I have to do that every time!
I really felt like a visit to Cuba was the way forward with the photo shoot. Sadly, that wasn’t about to happen so I had a think about what I could find closer to home….my sister remembered The Churchill hotel near her house had a Cuban cigar stand! Off we went! ( I am such a primary school teacher….there always has to be a theme!!!)
The hotel is being refurbished in parts but the gentleman on the desk was very polite and let us take some photos.
Here is my beautiful sister and one of her three boys- Henry. The Blog Manager was not too humiliated today, she wasn’t keen on asking the man to let us into the hotel, but having Auntie Clare must have been very soothing!
We love eating lunch at Pret a Manger, and we don’t have one in Darlington!! How can that be? Here is the sushi queen!
After we had visited my sister we went for tea at some of my college friends, who got married after they left college and we have not seen each other since we left in 1990! Think it is the start of a few more meet-ups!
Pattern : Simplicity 1609
Fabric:1.7metres ,7 inch side zip concealed in the right hand side.
Wonky Factor: 9/10 it’s perfect except I just realised it says Route 66 on it which is not in Cuba! Hahahaha . I went to show the lady who I bought the fabric from how it looked made up and she assured me that the fabric is called Cuba!!

I do that too – put accessories together on a hanger and step back to see how it looks before trying it on! The green cardi is perfect with it. Love how the Blog Manager and her Auntie Clare turned up with similar outfits – lace top and navy jacket. Very on trend:)

Hahaha! Yes….the flamingo one!!! And some beautiful fabric that will work with this style! I love the fit of it as most other shifts on me have too much fabric on the tummy. Look forward to seeing yours Emma Jayne!! 😍

How is life being a TV celebrity? I bet everyone loves you and wants to talk to you. You came across as such a lovely person on the show. I think it is a great time to be a home sewer as so many women nowadays don’t know how to sew. To be able to make something unique is a blessing. Have a lovely weekend. 🙂
