Very nice! You’ll truly end up with a unique coat when it is finished! As for the buttonholes that are up next, I’d make some samples first so that you’ll really know how they’ll turn out on the lace fabric. When you’re ready to tackle your coat do the lowest one first, that’s the one people pay least attention to so if it doesn’t turn out exactly how you wanted it to it’s at least not the one right next to your face!
You can do it! Linings are not my favorite thing to do either. It’s like making the garment twice, plus I don’t like working with slippery fabric very much.
Have you ever tried hand-basting the buttonhole markings in place? I find that to be helpful, especially when working with finer fabrics, such as your lace, that you may not want to use a marking pencil on.
Good luck! I know buttonholes can be tricky.
Good plan! Yes, will try that. Do you hand sew? I saw a beautiful hand stitched buttonhole on someone’s blog, but am not sure I would get the same finish. I have managed the lapel one, so may just go for one a day!
I know the type of hand sewn buttonhole you are talking about, but I think it would take a lot of practice to learn how to make them even and regular enough… I’ve never tried it.
You are so clever Amanda. Your collar looks fantastic. I can’t wait to see the finished coat. 🙂

Oh my thoughts exactly! Although I am more worried by buttonholes in the correct place or could really mess the whole look of it! !!!
