My gorgeous son has just graduated from Northumbria University after completing a PGCE in Primary Education. A Graduation ceremony definitely needs a new dress and so here is The Northumbria.
We took a selfie on the River Tyne!
You will notice I tried a brand new pattern! I fancied a sundress so ordered this pattern– Burda 6918 from the SimplicityNewLook website.
It all sewed up quickly as I did not get time to make the lined bodice! However, it was quite large and I needed to take the side seams in by about two inches each side! The fabric was from my Scarborough haul!
Northumbria University is in Newcastle, which is one of my favourite places. We walked along the Quayside which has The Baltic and The Sage by it…and even it’s very own beach!
Blog Manager had bought herself a #jumpintojune playsuit ……she didn’t want a homemade one!!!
So a very proud Mummy today! They both looked fabulous!
And my favourite photo of the day….
Pattern: Burda 6918
Fabric: 1.5 metres cotton
Wonky Factor: 8/10 it’s still a little big for me on the front but I am glad I tried a new style!!

Thank you! I am really trying hard to try to sew new styles!!! What are you sewing at the minute?

Hmmm, not much sewing is going on around these parts unfortunately. Too busy and then tired from writing the final pieces for my PhD thesis. When that is finished though, I intend to take a week off and spend it sewing. I really want to add some new pieces to my wardrobe. Right now, I’m dreaming of all the things I want to make (I fear a week will be nowhere near long enough…). To satisfy my sewing urge I’ll probably make some quick knit tops first, one with a drape neck I found in a recent Knipmode magazine and one from the drape drape book and then see whether I’m up for something more complicated like a classic tailored shirt.

what a wonderful happy day! The dress looks great, I made it earlier this summer and had to ajust the fit too – then washed it and it kindly shrank to fit! Must learn to pre wash fabrics

Hahaha! Oops, me too!!! Mine might be a better fit next time I wear it then!! Lol

Thanks Linny. You still worry like mad about them tho don’t you! ? He’s more of a worry now than when he was little!!!

Yes I never realised how much that you worry about them once they are young adults. Someone once told me “little children, little worries. Big children, big worries” How true. Has he got a teaching job lined up.

Oh that’s a true motto for sure! Yes, he is very excited as he has a job in a small school about 15 minutes from home teaching 9and 10 year olds and is also the PE co-ordinatir!!! He has big football team plans already!!! ⚽️

When I first saw that last photo I thought, “he’s got the masculine version of her eyes & general facial shape.” Does he also have your sunny disposition? Looks like it from the photo. Lovely BM is independent at the mo & taller than Mum! Perhaps busy being her own good self just now! 😉

Proud mum moment!! Lovely frock. I’ve got to ask – where in Scarborough did you find such lovely fabric?

Thank you! It could have done with lining I think. I had to go to BHS and buy a slip to stop it clinging to me!! Lol

Another lovely dress! Your wardrobe must be bursting at the seams! I am planning a few new makes over the holidays as I’m starting a new job in September – moving to a new school and up into Key Stage 2! Need to have some new outfits to impress my new class! Maybe another Ruby….!
Love reading your blog. Keep it up! Have a good summer break.
