Simple Sew Skater Dress
It’s half term here so I managed to make myself a lovely new dress. One of the great things about everyone knowing you love to sew is if they see any fabric they donate it ! Julie at school found me some gorgeous fabric to make my dress.
I chose the pattern as Elizabeth – one of my followers asked me how to add the bodice to the skirt after she saw my previous Skater Dress and The York
So hopefully this will show her how I did it.
Make the bodice and sew at shoulder seams.
Once I had made sure the bodice and skirt were exactly the same size I pinned then and then sewed them together. Once I had done this to the front and the back I sewed the side seams. I changed the pattern slightly as the Skater has a low back so I made mine higher and used a 7inch side zip.
This week my friend’s mum celebrated her 70th birthday and she too is called Elizabeth so it seemed an appropriate name for my dress.
The Blog Manager was happy to take some arty shots today inside because the dress actually matches my living room!!!! How cool is that!?!
The best art shot was copying my gorgeous 1920s figurine..
Except I really am not model material….
I am very happy with it.
Pattern : Simple Sew Skater Dress
Fabric: Wool mix -2.5 metres
Notions: 5m bias binding, 7 inch invisible zip.
Wonky Factor: 10/10!!!!! It’s really perfect ! Honestly Patrick! 🐝

Thank you soooo much for this photo along, it’ll really help me to finally make this dress! And you do make a good model, keep it up 🙂
Where did you get your tags done by the way?
Happy sewing ❤

I think it’s about time I made this dress! I like that you heightened the back because the low back was what put me off – 3/4 length sleeves for the colder seasons, with a low back?!
And well done for getting through Week 3 – I just watched it on iPlayer this evening and was getting worried but you pulled it off! 😀 The time limit must be infuriating.

Thanks Beth! Yes, I made the original pattern (The York) and it is beautiful but I wore it wore work and my back was so cold I ended up with a cardigan and it spoilt the look! I used a side zip too as I prefer them. I am just sewing it in guipire lace….its a beautiful dress pattern. I love how easy and quick it is! Yes, Episode 3 was another finger biting, but funny episode on the entertaining GBSB!!! 🐝

I too love the dress! You did a great job again! 🙂 Personally I would prefer shorter sleeves, but this is a tiny detail! I wish you all the best for the next GBSB episode. Crossing my fingers. 🙂 Best wishes from Toronto, Jana

Indeed! They also emphasize the upper part of the dress more, which is ideal for A-typed woman such as me. Hahaha. 🙂 Best, Jana

Hi Amanda, the last photo is FAB! I need a blog manager – we are currently having a coffee break mid photo shoot because my blog manager is in such a strop about it! The skater dress is lovely – I thought that skater dresses were for knits but obviously I’ve got that wrong. Good luck for “next week”!

Haha…… For my Julia cardigan post I had my camera balanced on a shelf in the kitchen and have a remote now….don’t know if I feel more daft with or without a blog manager…but either option is better than the #moodyoffspring – 4 months to go till he’s a teenager! ✂️😀✂️
