We have started to spend a few days with my brother at Christmas and he lives in Richmond. It is the most beautiful place to live and visit.
Our yearly treat is to stay in a lovely hotel whilst we are there.

Obviously it needed a dress named after it!
I bought these beautiful shoes…from Top Shop a little while ago
and then found this lace on White Tree Fabrics. It seemed a perfect match. I knew in my head the style of dress I wanted and knew it had to be quite plain to make the sleeves noticeable. The lace is beautiful and I couldn’t resist a bow once again!!! This is the same as The Lawn Bow I made in June.

I have made lots of circle style dresses recently , you will already know this if you have been following my blog in the last few months, and so knew I needed to diversify a little!
I love the dress style, however, because I wanted to make the dress to take to my brothers I had to get the only burgundy fabric in the shop near where I live and it is actually quite cheap and nasty! It felt fine in the shop,however, it is polyester and frayed like crazy as I sewed and it is very static.
Despite all the negatives I did manage to wear it though!
I had already learned this valuable lesson….if you are going to put lots of effort in then buy good quality! It was the pull of my ideas made me hasty!

Fabric: burgundy polyester from Boyes
Lace sleeves are beautiful lace from White Tree Fabrics
Wonky Factor: 4/10 bad choice of fabric for the dress when I had beautiful fabric for the sleeves and a gorgeous zip!
But making up for that….looked who called in at my brother’s new flat!

What a shame about the fabric, although I have to say it looks wonderful in the photos! I love the lace zip and would love to get my hands on some of these! Can you buy them online? The shoes are also to die for! 🙂

I love this one. Great to see a different shape on you!!!! We wouldn’t have known about the slightly dodgy fabric unless you had told us. But it is still a timely reminder for us all!

The details on it are a beauty, love love that bow. It’s a shame about the fabric but if the style works you can always make it in a better quality fabric. If you find the same colour then you can use the sleeves and the zipper. It does look great on you.

Do love the style of the dress, as a change from the others, and that zip is gorgeous! Am going to try locating similar zips over here, as a use immediately came to mind… and I usually avoid zips. You might think of this as a wearable toile, and plan another with different fabric.
That breakfast looks absolutely yummy!

Yes, they are easy zips that look lovely. More expensive but worth is I think. I like the little heart on the end it! It was the most beautiful place to stay! A definite treat! 💝

It’s a fab dress, and I love the lace sleeves. The zip is perfectly colour matched and makes a great rear view detail.

Thank you! I love the zip as it is so pretty and so easy!! I’m not sure I do it right, but I just turn under at each side, finish the edge and then sew zip on right side! 💝

I know, it really did a nice job of it too. I was just cross with myself as I had learned the cheap fabric lesson and totally forgot! I think maybe because I thought I can do things better now the fabric would be different???? Silly me! 💝
