Here in the UK it is Children in Need Day on 14th November. Pudsey Bear is the mascot and all over the country fundraising events take place to raise money.
At school we all dressed up as Superheroes and had lots of superheor activities and fun! We have 630 children at our school…so that is a large amount of superhero power all in one place!
I knew I had to have a dress and mask to wear….
I used Simple Sew Ruby..again!!
I used a duvet cover from Argos as I did not expect to get more that one days wear out of it! I managed to make a dress , 2 capes and 2 masks!
I used the Ruby pattern but made a higher back and a concealed zip in the side seam. I did not have enough fabric for a circle skirt so just gathered the fabric and sewed to the bodice.
Pattern: Simple Sew Ruby Dress
Fabric: duvet cover, 9inch concealed zip, 3m of bias binding and thread.
Wonkiness: 8/10 I am happy with the dress, not too keen on the feel of the fabric and don’t like the gathering in my waist. Circle skirts are much more flattering on my waist!

Wow I love that you went to so much trouble to make a memorable day, I thought I was inventive buying a large lace blouse from a Primark sale and cutting it up to fill in a heart shape back panel on another dress so I could make it into a Princess Peach outfit lol.

I think it turned out great!! And using the duvet was brilliant! I just ordered Batman sheets to make my nephew a play tent… MUCH cheaper than buying straight fabric… Are you sure you would never wear the dress again? It is darn cute!

Ha! I could probably get away with it at school! The children loved it! Next idea is we are having a Charlie and the chocolate factory day. And I have found some Quentin Blake fabric! But it is upholstery…make a nice bag! Lol! I may do a plain dress with collar and belt in the fabric?? A dress won’t work with upholstery do you think?

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory! AWESOME! I think a simple dress out of home fabric could work. I have seen people make things from Ikea fabric… and I found a post from Julia Bobbin – she did it! http://www.juliabobbin.com/2012/02/is-it-curtain-is-it-couch-no-its-my.html

Duvet covers open a whole new world for a dressing up day dress!! It was £12.49 and we got 3 costumes from it and I didn’t need to touch the pillowcase! Haha

What about your chocolate orange dress for the Charlie & the chocolate factory day? You could accessorise it with sweetie looking jewellery! 😀

Funny! I bet the kids loved it 🙂 I spent the day in pjs for school, and the evening in my Zumba/super hero outfit for a Zumbathon… Well and truly done with the dressing up for this year! X

I know! Haha. We said the same, but then I decided on holiday it could be quite easy to dress up if you can just make a dress!! But the fabric was going to cost too much so then came the duvet idea! I think this could be the start of a great idea! We are doing a Charlie and the chocolate factory day in March…..and I just spotted fabric with this on!!! Might have to splash out tho. It was expensive stuff! But was wondering if I could do a plain colour dress and then a fabric collar?????

And a belt? You could switch them for each occasion. You could even add a scarf (Tilly and The Button’s Brigitte one?). Love it!!
