I needed a dress to wear under my new Laine Bow Trench and decided Linton Tweeds would have just the fabric!
I decided on a simple shift dress to show it off and added pockets and some lovely frayed edging to give it a designer look!
It was a simple shift dress and I used an invisible side zipper.
I now have a beautiful dress and matching Laine Trench coat. which I wore for a day in Manchester . The photos are taken just before we went in Harvey Nichols for a morning coffee!
I am just sewing a 1930s style hat to complete the look.
Pattern: Simplicity 6145
Notions: 1 m of navy ribbon, 2 buttons and 2m of ribbon to finish the hem.
Wonkiness: 9/10 ……I just don’t suppose it can be perfect??!!

Gorgeous!! The style of the dress really shows off this beautiful fabric. I was there today and now have a lovely big bag of Linton 🙂

Ooooo tell me more. I reckon I could go on a day trip and at least buy a coffee!!! Did they have a bargain bin???

Yeah, there’s a remnants bin 🙂 I got a couple pieces from that, and then they have a rack with 140x1m remnants as ‘skirt size’ which they were selling two for £15. Good times. Definitely worth the trip!

Amanda, this dress is so, SO lovely! I bought some Linton tweed when in the UK over twenty years ago, and it is still waiting to be sewn up….maybe soon!

Do it! It is so gorgeous made up! I used a YouTube tutorial for the edging. It is a bias cut strip and then machine stitched down the middle twice and then frayed. It was so easy and looks great! Look forward to seeing it! 😃

Wonderful fabric. Such an elegant dress! You seem to have more hours in your day than mine, the way you keep running all these things up! Or maybe you just don’t sleep!

We have had a few glimpses of warmer weather coming and I have been thinking about what to sew for summer. I have a few dresses to make for my daughters.

Looking forward to seeing them. Is your daughter still sewing too?

She has been really busy this year and hasn’t had any time to sew. We did visit a fabric store last week and she said that she was going to start sewing again. I hope so, as it has been a great stress breaker and hobby for me most of my life.

I know what you mean! I wish I had always sewn instead of thinking I wasn’t good enough at it. Realising it is a growing skill whatever anyone else says! I try to do half an hour on an evening now…..it just calms me after the stresses of work! Glad she is going to set back into it.

My, but this linen looks marvellous, and is a new-to-me name. So will have to go look it up. Thank you for showing us such a lovely outfit, which you richly deserve after all that work on the trench. LOVELY ! Can’t wait to see that hat! (Sweet tea service, too!)

Thanks! Do you have Clarks shoes? I just noticed today that even their new collection of brogues has some Linton tweed on them, at the side!

Read the site – never knew about them, but sure do now!
Yes, know & love Clark’s & wear them a lot. Can’t find brogues with tweed, but they sound great! Thanks for letting me know.

That is sharp. Restraint is hard for me- but that fabric brings it’s own band- it doesn’t need any floor show. Love it.

I’m with you on the staffing issues 😉 I can picture the scene with the coat coming off, sure would have gone a similar way in our household! 🙂
