My son will be 21 in February and he is having a joint party with his girlfriend. They are very excited and we all have to be dressed up.
I chose this pattern as it reminded me of the Estee Lauder advert- but she has a navy one!
I bought my fabric back in November from Clothspot
http://clothspot.co.uk/product/chocolate-orange-shot-taffeta/
It arrived beautifully wrapped.
But back to more of the chocolate orange now it is finished…..
It fits perfectly so I am very pleased with it, and of course the Christmas shoes and bag…..
Everything I make brown turns out perfectly…..so it could be a brown blog from now on!
I will make sure I upload some photos from the party in February…. apparently I have to serve the food….. matching apron?????!!!

Wow, Amanda, this is so beautiful, you did a terrific job! I love how you chose the brown taffeta (chocolate orange to be exact). It’s not a well used colour for evening wear but it so should be, it’s terrific! So much softer and richer than black and so much warmer than navy. Great choice! I’m sure you will be the Belle of the Ball in this.

Forgot to ask, how did you find this pattern in the end? I have the same pattern and want to make the version you made as well.

I loved making this pattern! It all went very well and I sort of used my own knowledge once I had the facings on as I wanted an invisible zipper. I was worried about it not fitting around my girth!! They often are too tight, so I did a 1cm SA to below the waist , but then it was not fitted enough so I went with the pattern and abit more! My sister and I laughed as I have made it to be its true style… A wiggle dress…..or maybe a wobble dress in my case! Haha I think the pattern makes it look more gathered on the shoulder than it actually is as well. So I think it would look good in cotton for the summer too.

Thanks Kerry! I am very please with it! I’ve made it quite fitted though! Yikes! I told my mam over the phone I had made it skim my curves..and she protested….” Oh you don’t want it too tight!!!” Hopefully it is just womanly !

This pattern is so beautiful, and it looks great made up. It’s always been on my ‘maybe I’ll pick that up one day’ list – this is certainly inspiration if I do 🙂

Thank you! I really enjoyed sewing it too. So worth giving it a go. I was worried about the sizing with it being retro- I did 1cm seams on the sides to begin with, but then ended up re sewing 1.5cm so they have adapted for the modern figure!

Yeah! Thanks! I love it and the bows! I think that was why I picked out the pattern. I really enjoyed sewing it and would quite like an everyday one! I would love to sew it in a liberty lawn perhaps for the summer.
