Remember my beautiful Lace trench that I still can’t believe I made?
Well, I was asked to make a coat for my friend by her daughter for Christmas like this, but with designer shoes printed on. She sent me the fabric and I made the coat. It was all top secret and I managed to keep it that way. Very surprising for me!
The fabric was a tana lawn and beautiful but not really coat weight! I underlined it in white cotton and then used some cherry colour in the collar, button and belt buckle. I was worried it might look like a dressing gown without an injection of colour. I couldn’t find a buckle the correct shade so I covered one in cherry bias binding.
I am very pleased with how it turned out. The fitting caused me some worries, so I put Hong Kong seams rather than a lining so we could take it in if necessary. It seems to be a good fit and she is waiting for Spring to get a chance to wear it!
Wow what a gorgeous designer coat you have made, Amanda. I love the fabric and especially love the touch of cherry under the collar and the big button. Definetly a statement coat. Love it. 🙂
