I found this dress fabric on my local outdoor market.
I just loved it as soon as I saw it as it reminded me of a Mondrian painting but also of a Charles Rennie Mackintosh design, so all in all it had to be a good quality sew!
I am quite pleased with how it turned out… it is still a little gaping at the back neck, however, I think I may have been inserting my invisible zipper too early and so next time will try after the facing is on the neck. Thanks for the tips!
I also bought a plain black cardigan and swapped the buttons to match the colours in the dress.
What a great find!

Great style for that gorgeous fabric of yours. Love how it looks on you. Are you a Charles Rennie MacIntosh fan ? I fell in love with his work after seeing his house at Glasgow University about 6 years ago. Congrats on the completion of your tranch coat. Looking forward to seeing pics of it ASAP.Hope the weather is good for you to enjoy some Autumn sunshine. Cheers Linda

Hi! Yes I love his work and I went to Glasgow two years ago and found out all about him! I loved his tea rooms I have to say! I am so happy with trench, but needs a decent photo shoot to showcase it! Hope to do it next weekend. Weather here is definitely Autumnal…. Lots of rain this weekend but our news is full of the NSW fires! Looks terrible and I didn’t even think it was that summery yet! ☔️

What a glorious dress! The dress style matches the design of the fabric so well. And I very much approve of the matching cardigan idea.

love the references to the artists for this fabric.
you have made an awesome dress, which makes me think of art deco / flapper ’20’s …

Thanks, I couldn’t decide between the two. I tried to add a photo of an original Yves St Laurent dress from 1965, but it wouldn’t save. Not quite matched the sides too well as it has a slight A-line to it, but not bad for a first try! I am reading up on matching plaids and stripes etc now!
